Zoom VLC icons and font on upcom.4K monitors does not work

As you know a new generation of 4K monitors with a high resolution of 3840x2160 pixels are
becoming enormously popular.

Unfortunately the font for some GUI based programs are very tiny. So users have to increase the Windows zoom level.

This in turn is not understand by some programs like VLC. VLC does not pay attention to the new zoom level and hence do not adjust the size of the font(s) and toolbar icons.

This is very annoying.

I am planning to upgrade to such a 4K monitor in the near future and would like to continue to use VLC. But VLC is unusable in this resolution.

Please, could you make VLC 4K ready in the next release?

Thank you

I am having the same issue--can't figure out how to increase the size of the button bar on VLC on my 4K screen--the tiny icons and progress bar are really difficult to work with on the touch screen. I would like a way to increase the size of these on my screen

Not a total fix, but something that I've found that helps with Windows 7 and 4k is changing the icon size/font size via control panel;

Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Personalization\Window Color and Appearance

Then
Advanced Appearance Settings.

Cheers, I hope this helps a little

I think that it has to do with: "Display settings -> Advanced display settings -> Advanced sizing of text and other items -> Set a custom scaling level". Because most graphic drivers on windows use this to make icons on desktop big enough to read. On my monitor, it's set to 200% and the VLC icons get really really tiny and it's really hard to read, the most annoying thing for me is that it's hard to read the % of current volume level, anything else is not even a problem i think. But it would be nice to have bigger buttons for Next and Previous track, etc.. I guess that the button width and height must be set to auto or something like that or be just unset in the windows forms application or universal app or what ever app VLC Player is using.

4k monitors are not a good choice unless monitor is big at least 30 inch.
This is why I bought 15.6 inch HD laptop intentionally. Originally I consider buying Full HD. Soon I realized that fonts and icons are too small to read on Full HD monitors.

I agree, you need a physical bigger screen with such a high resolution. But even on smaller devices with zoom the image looks much sharper to me then with a lower resolution. The problem with zoom is, that you lose all the space which you could have with such a high resolution because it's zoomed in and it looks like a smaller resolution, but i as said before, sharper. At least that's my experience with it.
