Problem with DVD ending too soon

Postby JJB » 19 Aug 2014 20:11

Hi,

I have a DVD which works fine in a normal DVD player. However when I made a ISO image onto my computer (easier for the kids to watch), it starts to play but stops about 2/3 of the way through.

I think this may be something to do with how the VOB and IFO files were built.

In one VOB file does not contain the movie in a linear format (one scene after the next). Rather it starts normally (where the previous VOB left off), but at some point before the end it sticks back in something which looks like the opening screen before the menu is entered. This is also where VLC stops playing.

I figure the IFO file is probably built so that on a normal DVD player it would give the proper information for how to skip over this section. But for some reason in VLC this does not work correctly.

Also the VOB file when I looked at it alone reported that it had days worth of video on it. Clearly not reality. So something must have been done to the VOB structure too.

Is there any utility that I can use to help me decipher the IFO file and compare it to the VOB structure. Preferably in Linux as that is what I run most of the time.

I would be happy to feedback my results if this would be helpful to the developers.

Thanks
