Toast 6 mpeg1&2 encode

Have been making looping VCDs played on standalone DVD players in pal for about 2 years using mpeg1 compression on Imac under toast5.
Thought it time to up the quality to mpeg2 using vcdbuilder to make the looping vcds .(mostly for community to save paper and time in endless conversations on the same subject) Well the up grade to Panther to load Toast6 for the Mpeg2 encoder. Well not even VCL can read a split audio and video together. As for handling the complete file in an image only Toast6 can open it. Is what I am saying here correct in that the new soft ware getting less friendly. Is ther a war on as to who is going to control the use of Mpegs as with IDVD encompassing IDVDMpeg2 now Toast (Roxio)is following?
Question : Is there a simple to use mpeg2 encoder for the purpose above on mac with documentation.
I make better shot information flims than understand computer encoding.
Anyone help a Wallaby?

i use FFmpegX to convert video, it does a very great job, and has a bunch of different codecs, some says its hard to use, but ITS NOT, you got to be a real newbee on computers and digital video to not manage to convert a video with good result.

The program has many options, thats what scares most people away, download it and try it out, the installation may seem like a real bitch, but its realy a no-brainer.

There also seems to be a compatibility problem with some of the VCD's/ SVCD's that toast creates and VLC. cause of the problem is unknown.
