i have a general question and not a problem hopefully sombody can help me.

i have a computer hooked up to my hd television , i am using a hdmi wire from the computer (which is plugged into just a video card that has hdmi out) and then directly into the hdmi in the back of my television, when i play ac3 files over this setup they sound very low and hard to hear, but when i used VLC's A52/SPDIF option the sound is so much clearer, very rich and full. im not sure what that option is doing , but i have found nothing else that does it .

so my question is , is there a some kind of hardware i can purchase that does the same thing that a52/spdif is doing? so i don't have to use my computer to listen to ac3 files maybe a a/v home theater receiver or something, realy not sure as i am not quiet shure what a52/spdif is or what its doing. i tried looking it up but i didn't really understand it.

You have configured VLC to pass through, and the other software to decode. No, you cannot buy hardware to undo the decoding; that's mostly irreversible.
