VLC could not decode the format "h264"

Postby plittlefield » 22 May 2014 20:38

Hello

First it was the ID3 tag support that went... so I cannot scrobble to Last.fm

Now it's the H264... that was working fine yesterday, and has been for the last 2 years.

Code: Select all

Codec not supported: VLC could not decode the format "h264" (H264 - MPEG-4 AVC (part 10))
It's on a .mkv that plays fine in another VLC and (clears throat) mplayer...

:-(

What's going ON with my favourite media player?!?

Paully

Ubuntu 12.04.04 LTS
VLC 2.2.0~~git20140521+r56855+123+113+102~ubuntu12.04.1

Your VLC installation is hosed (not unlikely given the weird version number), or the build lacks libavcodec.

Hi,

I'm having the same problem with the same version of VLC as you. When I run it from the command line I get following messages:

Code: Select all

[00007fef78c23518] core decoder error: corrupt module: /usr/lib/vlc/plugins/codec/libavcodec_plugin.so [00007fef78c23518] core decoder error: Codec `h264' (H264 - MPEG-4 AVC (part 10)) is not supported. [00007fef78c89f08] core decoder error: corrupt module: /usr/lib/vlc/plugins/codec/libavcodec_plugin.so
Corrupt libraries are never fun :(

It happen to my ubuntu, when i want to watch a recorded video from my DVB-T2 Tuner.
What I did to make it works:
1. Install the ubuntu-restricted* (* --> everything followed after that string)
2. Uninstall VLC, and re-install back

After both steps, i try to play the video, it works!!!

I had installed ver 3.xxx and removed, re-installed 2.2xxx then I got this error.
I couldn't figure it out, but after an hour I decided to install / re-install the following:

Code: Select all

# zypper in -f libavcodec52 vlc-codecs vlc-noX-lang libva2 libva-x11-2 libva-wayland2 libva-glx2 libva-drm2 libavdevice52 libavformat52 libavc1394
VLC 2.2.xxx is now working (again)... pew.
