VLC Resolution Setting?

Im wondering if its possible to make VLC output to a certain resolution, such as 720p (1280 x 720) or 1080p (1920 x 1080)
If so, how...

Menu Tools -> Preferences (Show settings = ALL) -> Video
Then on the right panel scroll down to the Window Properties section, set it like you want then save, exit and restart VLC.
