Problem accessing streamed QT video through plug-in

Postby MacEachaidh » 26 Apr 2014 11:44

This may be a Firefox issue — I'm not sure where to start — but I'm having trouble streaming embedded Quicktime files through the VLC plug-in, so any help would be appreciated.

An example is this site: http://www.hosokinema.com/atthedeathhousedoor.html

The site is asking me to install a plug-in, which turns out to be a full installation of Quicktime. No thanks, especially when VLC can handle Quicktime files.

So I tried to configure how Firefox (version 28.0) handles the Quicktime format. If I go to Tools/Options/Applications, I can configure how different content types are handled. For instance, MPEG and MP4 files are set to "Use VLC Web plug-in", but the plug-in doesn't offer that option for Quicktime content — the only option is to choose "Use VLC media player (default)", which doesn't work with embedded video. It seems the plug-in isn't providing that option, but I can't find how to configure it.

As I said, this might be a Firefox issue, but does anyone here know how to resolve this, please?

This works for me on Firefox, using the VLC web plugin.

Thanks for that, but it doesn't really help.

If, as you seem to be implying, it's something to do with my system or configuration, how do I try to resolve it?

For starters, the info on the VLC plugin doesn't include QuickTime in the MIME types that plugin version 2.1.3 supports. As far as i can see, that's the most recent release version. Are you using a more recent version? Could that be the reason it works for you? If you're not, how did you get it to work?

Can you help me please with any suggestions??
