can't view .PS file

I was recording a video with vlc by "convert/save" and my computer shut down before a stopped the recording. I know the info is there in the .PS file because it is larger than a gig but vlc won't play it. I've changed the extention to .MPEG .MPG .avi etc and then it will play but only the audio. What do I need to do to view the video?

I know this thread is kinda old but I have the exact same problem. Did you or someone find a solution ?
