Full Audio No video.

Okay bare with me here... I am not a A/V guru but I am not computer illiterate either mind you.
I have seen this problem is relatively common but all of the common fixes do not work for me, at least of the ones I could find. I have updated drivers, I have tried upgrading, downgrading, sidegrading, x64, x32 VLC and STILL no joy (2.13 and 1.11) I have tried every single output mode available on multiple AVI's from the same resource to no avail. Full system specs available upon request (seeing as flash player links from the same resource work fine I have a hard time seeing this as a system issue but ya never know, if I had the option to use adobe for the next few links I would)
I am trying to stream a .AVI through the mozilla VLC plugin, the stream starts I have full audio and no video. Common problem with easy common fixes right? Nope. I can't figure this out and it is driving me bonkers!!
On a related note (I'll ask before I get asked ;P) Where do I see the error log? So I can give you peoples a better idea of what's going on.
ANY help at all would be very much appreciated. I have literally spent twice the the length of the program trying to get it to display. If any further details are needed PLEASE do not hesitate to ask. This is as descriptive as I can be about my problem with my relative inexperience with VLC streaming.
Thank you for your time in advance and have a good'n
Edit: Upon further investigation it is ONLY .avis that are not playing. .Mkv works perfectly fine.
