Serious issue: Video freezes, audio continues. Please help?

Alright, so here's the deal. Over the past few weeks, as I've waited for the issue to go away, it hasn't. On occasion, with certain files in certain places, the video completely freeze up, but the audio continues normally. I'm usually in fullscreen, and I'm forced to ctrl+alt+tab out of the VLC window, open the task manager, and kill the process. Sometimes, the audio actually keeps looping a few seconds of sound instead of just continuing.
But anyways, I'm on Windows 7, I have 2.1.2, I've tried rolling back to 2.1.1 and 2.1.0, didn't help. I've messed with hardware acceleration, decoding, and caching values, no change. The consistency of the areas in which the problem occurs is the weirdest part, because it has only occurred in the opening sequence of Commie's Space Dandy releases, but I know for a fact that nothing is wrong with the files. I'm sure that something just happens to be going on in those sequences that I just don't understand, and that it can be fixed via settings manipulation.
I've searched and searched and searched, and despite the large amount of topics on this issue I've found from over the years, not one person has ever offered a working solution.
So what's the deal? What am I missing? Am I just screwed? I'd appreciate any and all suggestions, even if they seem farfetched.

Try the latest VLC 2.1.2.
My apologies, I have the latest version (2.1.2). It was a typo, sorry.

Just want to comment, since I stumbled on this on shot-in-the-dark google: I am having exactly the same problem. Literally. The OP for commie's Space Dandy release hangs the video, and then the whole program. If I skip past it, all is well. At first I freaked out thinking something was wrong with my install or my computer in general, but all other media files play fine. It's ONLY Commie's Space Dandy, and only on the OP, which is a very...weirdly specific way for something to fail.
All the other responses I've seen to this have berated the reporters for not having a powerful enough CPU, but I'm running a 3 Ghz dual core AMD with 8 gigs of RAM, and while not a powerhouse it's certainly solid. I watch stuff of similar quality/resolution all the time with no problem, and I'm pretty sure if my CPU was the problem that skipping to a different section of the video wouldn't fix it.
Maybe it's some weird encoding glitch that's somehow been undetected through 4+ episodes now?

Try to use hardware decoding.

it just also happened to me when I used VLC v2.1.3. to play commie's Servant x Service ep.10 .mkv file. VLC had never failed me before. This is the first time ive seen this but when i play the file using Media Player Classic, everything seemed to be fine.

I have the same problem occasionally with VLC Player. I am actually having it now, with a mp4 movie, where the video freezes at the beginning of the movie, but the music continues to play. If I try to skip the beginning there is a horrible lag and pixelation. The strange thing is that if I play the movie with Media Windows Player, it plays fine with no pixelation. I have read that it is related to buffer, and I'll continue to try to fix it.
