Unable to play DVD past episode 1

Hi there – I have read through all the FAQs, etc. but I’m still struggling – I’m currently using vlc-2.1.2-rincewind.
I live in region 2 and when playing a region 4 dvd (legitimate copy from a DVD store) – it only allows me to play episode 1.
Thereafter it 'bombs out'.
If possible please help.
