Problems with web streaming(?).

So I'm having problems with web streaming, and I don't think it's suppose to do this.
1. There is none visual buffer value or time stamp, how long the video is, where you are currently playing or how long it have buffered.
2. I cannot fast forward or pause it for 2 minutes, because then the video restart from the beginning and need to re-buffer everything.
Is it suppose to do this, or do I need to change something? Can I do something to make it better? I tried it on youtube and other video steaming sites, and it's the same everywhere I try it, and to be honest it's completely useless, it goes faster to download the file and then use the "Offline" VLC program to watch the video. I'm using VLC version 2.1.0 and the web plugin 2.1.0.0 on Firefox 26.0 with Win7 x64.
