A/52 option gone after clean, identical install

Postby kaktusen » 11 Oct 2013 03:25

Hi guys, thanks for having me.

I've recently done a clean install on the PC I use in my living room, and VLC suddenly went bonkers, and won't allow me to pass through via A/52, the option is just gone.
I have no problem playing sound through both optical and coaxial SP/DIF, it just won't allow me to select A/52. But the install is super clean, it's just Win 7 Home Premium, Chrome and VLC, and it worked perfectly before I formatted and reinstalled. Didn't even have to configure anyhting before, it just worked straight out of the install. I haven't checked the date on when VLC 2.1 was released, but that would be the only difference in the before/after installs. I've also had the problem earlier on other systems, where the A/52 suddenly disappeared, and once just popped back like magic.

It also works like a charm when sending DTS/AC3-tests from the Windows control panel (not soundcard software), the reciever changes to Dolby Digital/DTS for the duration, all channels play, all is swell. I've also tried connecting disconnecting in all manner of orders to see if it's any discovery of some kind that needs to be done to make VLC "sense" that there's a decoder in the other end.

I've tried to enable Force SP/DIF, but the A/52 is just gone no matter what I try. I have no other problems with configuration, I've tried playing through all available options (HDMI on soundcard, optical+coax). Using either automatic selection of output or selecting manually makes no difference.
I should mention that the list where I select output (right click on screen -> Audio -> Audio Device) now shows me a list of the same outputs available in the Windows manager, whereas before it showed the analog outputs of the soundcard plus a "A/52 over SP/DIF"-option.

I'm at wits end, any takers?

Known issue which should be fixed in VLC 2.1.1:
https://trac.videolan.org/vlc/ticket/9522

You can try a nightly build.
