YouTube sound inoperative post VLC 2.1.0 update

I have just updated to version 2.1.0 and YouTube no longer has sound. As well the plug in for Firefox has vanished. I can play files on my pc using VLC without any difficulties.
Might anyone have an idea what is causing this?
