Video trimming as MP3 only???

Okay so I figured out how to trim video, easier than I thought because I kept trying to use point A Point B... but it kept coming out as MP3 file. I don't remember doing anything different but a few weeks later tried it again and voila, MPG file... pretty good quality, and not a huge file size just a couple days ago. Today I go to do it, and MP3 only. I tried playing with the output settings, and resetting to default but I just can't get it to work.
For some reason, it said I had the latest version when I checked for updates, but clearly there wasn't because I did not have 2.1, I had I think 1.8... anyway, still not working on here.
I have Windows 8.1, Dell I7
