Transcoding

I only just noticed that VLC (for windows in this particular case) can transcode and save. Yay.

But like most transcode progs, it gives few clues as to what settings achieve which.

To save me having to do test runs with all teh options and settings to see what does what, can anyone give me a pointer or two? I'm looking for something which results in approx 0.75-1Gb of disk per hour of vid max, and, ideally, something which Sony Bravia Internet devices can play.

So far I've picked a couple of settings at random, end result is a file about half the size I'm looking for with pixels the size of alaska! :(

You should try handbrake.
