VLC streaming is not working properly

I have been using the stream feature and I quiet like it. If I were to open a stream by using a link from Youtube and that video is about 5 minutes, VLC works. However, if I were to open a stream by using a link from Youtube and that video is about 30 minutes, VLC will only play 7 seconds then pauses then skips to the 12th second, then closes the stream. I don't know whats the problem. I am setting my cache to 3000ms. Any solutions?

Thank You

Maybe it is not the same format and protocol?

Do you mean VLC does not support the video I am streaming? Or I am not using the correct format for it to be streamed? If so, may you tell me how to figure out the format and protocol of the streaming video to match it on VLC?
Thanks for reply.

Ok, this time it worked. So I suppose it was some sort of glitch or something. Another thing, how do I convert the stream? I want to save the stream to my computer. However, the extension is .ps. How do I convert the stream to like .mp4?
