Subtitles won't show!

Well, I'm just another anime fan with subtitle-problems I suppose. :?

I'm using OS X 10.4.1 and I've got these series in avi, with double sets of subtitles for each episode in the folder. The subtitle files ends with: ".tc.ssa" and ".sc.ssa".
When I play the files I get an error message like this:

subtitle: failed to recognize subtitle type
main: no suitable demux module for `-=the name of the file=-.sc.ssa'
subtitle: failed to recognize subtitle type
main: no suitable demux module for `-=the name of the file=-.tc.ssa'

P.S. It doesn't work on MPlayer either, if that's any help.

I guess that this subtitle-format is not supported. I've never heard about it in the past 2 and a half years.

I see...

I see... :(

I find all of this subtitle stuff rather confusing, :? But I don't suppose I have any options like... converting them into supported subtitles? Or maybe finding them in some other formate?

I hope I'm not asking anything stupid. I'd just prefer not to watch them in japanese.

I have said time and again in the forums, that if someone has issues with subtitles, they should put them online so we can download them.

I'll look into it.

These subtitles are UTF-16 encoded and VLC currently does not support this. You can use an advanced texteditor to resave the file in the UTF-8 text encoding.

Yup, that did the trick! :) Well, at least I can see them now, though I can't really read them. :? They're looking like this: §°°&=, etc – with some other strange symbols.
Though I suspect the reason is the program I used; "Textedit" (preinstalled in mac) does that sometimes. I'll try with another program and hope for the best.

Anyway, thx for the help! :D

I am having the same issue. I try to load this subtitle file for Collateral. It's a .mp4 file. I get a message from VLC saying that it can't recognize the input's format. Subtitle is downloadable here.......... http://titles.box.sk/index.php?pid=subt2&p=i&rid=217221

I would like to figure this out soon, because I wanna watch this movie with my girlfriend, who is Japanese :D She speaks good enough English, but Collateral is not necessarily the easiest movies around to grasp, especially for someone whose native language is not English. So I want her to be able to watch it with Japanese subs.

Thanks, guys.
