VLC connect to another VLC instance using the HTTP interface

Postby langerak » 11 Jul 2013 16:09

Hi all!

I have a Windows desktop with no soundcard, but with VLC installed and is my working computer. I have another desktop as well (embedded thingy with Debian) and has VLC installed as well, this is a little box with a soundcard and headphones connected to it. The VLC instance on the Linux box had the HTTP interface enabled, so I can control it via the browser, but is not working that great as function keys etc will not work.

(You might say why I won't control the Linux box via the screen, well, that is shared and is only used for listening to music, because of the good soundcard)

My question is: Is it possible to have the regular VLC application on my Windows machine connect to the VLC HTTP interface on my Linux box, so I can remote control it? It can be done with remote apps on phones, but can it be done on a regular computer with VLC as well?

Thanks in advance!
