Success playing HD MPEG-2 (19.2 mbs encoded HD video .mts)

Had an unexpected success playing High Definition encoded 19.2 Mbs Mpeg transport files on OSX using the VLC player. A question, why does it work when there are virtually no other players except Heuris and KDDI for this kind of file? Both are rather expensive about $3000US and neither is as good.

Also is there a way to get the VLC to output over IE1394 to a firewire D-VHS deck or to an HD plasma Screen with firewire input?

cheers,

RvB

This is because someone (walken, the libmpeg2 author) is seriously smart :)
