'play selection' does not start from the first song

Hi!
I had vlc for years but never used as for some reason,actually i did not find it user friendly and fast.But now i want to and see what it is the difference.But With the earlier version and 2.07 when i select like 4 songs and click 'play selection' it starts from the third song,why? Though it does play all the songs but starts randomly.
2.And when i open a folder and click 'play all' instead of playing that folder it first plays one song from the folder which is just above and stops but if in between the song i click 'next', it then starts playing the folder which it should have done in the first place.Don't know why it is playing one song from the other folder.
I have avast anti virus program and i even did a full scan if in case it is a virus but nothing detected.
