VLC unable to correctly play most audio/video files

Hey there.
IDK if the problem was still treated, but with the latest VLC versions I can't be able to correctly reproduce .wmv or .m4a files, but I heard that many others have problems with other kinds of files.
I have problems both on Ubuntu 13.04 and Windows 8 with VLC 2.06 and 2.05.
