having problems using my vlc media player

im trying to watch a movie I just recently bought, but the media player will not play the dvd.
what can I do.

I would like to add that when I bring the dvd movie up with the media player, it only goes as far as the main menu page and when I click to play, nothing happens.

can someone please help me ?
