Youtube - Only stream music

Hello to everyone in this forum,
I'm new and got a question about VLC in connection with YouTube.

Is it possible to only stream the music without the video on a YouTube-Stream. I know the startup-arg "--no-video", but if I use this, it laggs, because the video is streamed, too.

If this is not possible, can I stream the video in a bad quality to prevent lagging?

Thanks for all the answers you will give me.

Append a format parameter "&fmt=18" to your YouTube URL. Try different numbers for different format/quality.
Or check the following setting in VLC preferences: ( Show settings = All ) > Input /Codecs: Preferred video resolution [Best available]

Thanks for this hint, but I heard the &fmt-param of YouTube doesnt exist any more. I will test it nevertheless.

And is there a possibility to set the "Preffered video resolution" with a cmd-param like "--no-video" or "--qt-start-minimized"?

Code: Select all

--preferred-resolution={-1 (Best available), 1080 (Full HD (1080p)), 720 (HD (720p)), 576 (Standard Definition (576 or 480 lines)), 320 (Low definition (320 lines))} Preferred video resolution When several video formats are available, select one whose resolution is closest to (but not higher than) this setting, in number of lines. Use this option if you don't have enough CPU power or network bandwith to play higher resolutions.
--preferred-resolution=360 works, too.

Ok, I tested out these methods and as result I've seen that the stream only uses half the network capacity ist used before.

Thank you very much, I think I reached my target.
