Multiple Playlists (possibly common question)

Hi, due to a Jedi mind trick that was used on me, I find myself acting as producer for a little weekly show on our local community radio. I'd like to use VLC to play our audio files (interviews, etc.), and using a playlist it's easy to queue up the show's pieces in the order that they will be played. A simple mouse click starts them and that's exactly what I need.
However, I'd like a second playlist loaded that I could switch to. This would contain sound effects and they are only meant to be used if I am inspired to use them based on the context of the live talk. So I'd rather not have them sitting in the main playlist of scheduled bits.
Audacious (the player I've been using so far) supports multiple playlists, tabbed, with "show" as one and "sound effects" as the other, and I can bounce back and forth between them easily. But VLC has a really nice feature that Audacious does not: Playlistview -- which displays the items in the playlist as great big icons that I can easily hit with the mouse, whereas Audacious only offers little mingy text strings.
So I'm thinking that if VLC can provide two separate but loaded playlists, then I got my new player!
