VLC is not detecting my minidlna server!

Hey guy/girls!
I have a raspberry pi (os: wheezy - latest stable) running a minidlna server (with bubbleupnp as a front-end). I'm trying to get it to work with VLC on my windows PC.
I am running the latest (stable) VLC build 2.0.6. I go to playlist -> local network -> universal plug and plug and nothing comes up (ive left it open for about an hour). And since there is currently 1 videofile on the server I don't think it should take quite that long for it to finish!
Anyhow my minidlna server shows up in windows under network (my main desktop PC - running windows 8 x64) and i can play the video with WMP fine. NB: I can copy the source location of the video and open the video in VLC using network stream and it works fine(!). So VLC can access the server, windows sees the server as a media sharing upnp server. So why isn't VLC showing it? I really would like to use VLC for this and I'm hoping there is someone out there who can help me out!
Also I use bubbleupnp for android on my phone and I can play the video just fine over wifi as well.
Thanks for reading and if there is more information you need please ask!
