Audio dropping out every few seconds

For a few months now, the audio is dropping out every few seconds. It just all of a sudden started happening - fine one day, then the next time, it was messed up. Nothing suggested in the forums has worked. BTW, the videos play perfectly in WMP, Quicktime, DIVX player, WIMP, etc.... very puzzling. Can anyone help me with this?
