VLCJ: Saving RTSP stream to file, file unreadable.

I have a server running VLCJ, which receives an RTSP video stream from my android and saves this stream to a file.
I mark the end of the video by cutting the connection from the android side, and this works fine.
The problem is when VLCJ is receiving the stream, but the android loses Internet connectivity. It takes a while for VLCJ to realise the connection is down, and more importantly, the video file is unreadable!
Is there any way make the file be readable? Perhaps make VLCJ ignore the last few seconds? Or somehow detect when no more input is coming?
