Noob - VLC and image proportion

Postby Jack_Knight » 08 Apr 2013 02:07

Hello guys,

I'm toying with the idea of ripping my dvd collection to make a nice htpc but I have encountered a strange VLC behavior (my video player these days).

Now this is surely a very noobish question, I'm not well versed in the technical side of video and I'm not writing to talk about a bug, I just want a little explanation.
Sometimes when I ripp one of my movies (16/9e), the resulting file seems to be 4:3 when played in VLC. There are two huge black bars on screen.
And when I try to directly read the disc with VLC, the movie is indeed 16/9e.

Could someone explain to me what I'm missing ?

You can alter the aspect ratio by pressing A, did you try that?
