Changing file names in Media Library

Every time I right click a file in Media Library, click "information", change the file name and click "save metadata", everything appears fine until I return to the file to play it again and then the file reverts back to the original name. How do I prevent this from happening, and have Media Library remember my changes? Thank you.

Ok. I read all of the help and i am still having issues. My files are not MKV or MP4. Everytime I try to change the name of the movie, it reverts back to the original garbly gook. I have taken the steps outlined in the guide that was given to the other person. I still see garbly-gook when I play my file. I am trying to view TV series and some downloads are better than others. I am trying to eliminate the ones that require the AVI Index to be built before playing. Unfortunately, because both files have the same garbled name as some others, I can't tell which one it is.

For example: On my external drive the episode is listed as... "MOVIE TV - Stargate SG1 (ENG ALL Season01 Episode18) Solitudes.avi". When I play it on DivX or any other media player the name is as shown. VLC is the default player but, when I play the episode there the screen says... "PeterPaulMary SG1 777 yes". No matter how many times I have tried to change it through Media Information, it reverts to the same undefined garbled mess. When I changed the extension and saved the file, it didn't play at all. Help Please. :(

The solution is to remove metadata tags from multimedia files, especially title tags. For AVI files try abcAVI Tag Editor or find some other tool on the Internet.
