VLC icon overlay media file

Please forgive me if my terminology is not correct. This is all new to me. I successfully downloaded VLC - using Mac 10.68. When I open up file - Season 2 of Perry Mason the LVC icon is over top of some of the individual files - obscuring them. I cannot play this files. However, the files that are not obscured by the icon play okay. Help!
