Watching 3D films

HELP!!!!!!!!!!
I use VLC media player to watch all my films on and love it. Problem I have now is I have decided to try an play 3D films I have downloaded through VLC from laptop to tele via HDMI.
Never had any problems before using this method for watching normal films but seemed to have run into one with 3D films.
Is there a certain setting I should have it on or some sort of preference so that I am able to watch the 3D film I have downloaded?
I was hoping that having a new 3D smart tele would make things a lot easier and I am hoping with help from yourselves out there my problem will get resolved..
