VLC and folder/FS streaming (input)

Greetings, fellow.
I found very interesting to use VLC on my desktop and VLC Direct Pro on Android for streaming video content from whole file system and playing it on spartphone. As you may know it looks like a playlist and feels like working with DLNA server: you have folders and can choose file to play. It works perfect and I like this way to play movies from smartphone. But I had no success in my tries to do the same from my another desktop. I read Streaming HOWTO but there are no information about navigating to server's filesystem when streaming HTTP content, just direct video file playing (URL like http://192.168.1.3/test.mp4, not http://192.168.1.3:8080 as I expected). I'm doing something wrong or VLC on my desktop can't do the same as VLC Direct Pro from Android and I need some other application to play video stream on remote desktop?
Thanks in advance

VLC Direct Pro has nothing to do with VLC. It's not even done by the VideoLAN project.

You would need a similar tool on the desktop, which might not even exist.

It's strange that VLC can stream content "out" but can't stream same content "in" as well...

Oh, it can stream it. It just can't list the files remotely.

Of course. I apologize, my expression was incorrect.
Can we hope that in future VLC will be able to list remote files?

No, this is out of scope.
