Dual Screen HDMI VLC freezes in second screen

Hey all,
I'm trying to get my VLC player to play in full screen on my TV screen via HDMI cable from my laptop while playing a game in full screen also off the laptops screen. When I load up the game however, the VLC player video freezes yet continues to play as the audio continues. Is there anyone I can combat this situation?
