Repeat playback (loop)?

I just want to repeatedly play a single video file (.flv), how do i do that?

this should be a simple task, but the Loop button on the main UI doesnt seem to have any effect at all.

Any advice?

(Btw, i don't want to bother with playlist and the cr*p associated with it, just repeatedly play whatever is currently playing; with Windows Media player, this is a one click op)

The repeat/loop button toggles between three settings:
- no loop (stops at end of playlist)
- loop all (play entire playlist, then restart from beginning)
- loop one (plays a single file over and over -- can be problematic if the file doesn't exist)

Do not confuse this feature with the A-B Loop, which allows one to loop between points A and B within a file. (View --> Advanced Controls)

thanks for taking the time to explain the loop feature, which I've already seen on the main UI but it doesn't work.

I figured out why:

Somehow in tools->preferences (All) -> Playlist, both "repeat current item" and "play and pause" are checked which doesn't make any sense: if i want to repeat why would play-n-pause? in this case, the player just play and pause, ignoring the repeat setting.

Don't know who's the dimwit that lumped together these conflicting options all in one place without giving any thought to their logical functions.
This is really frustrating to new users and i suspect the open-source style development contributed to the presence of such obvious defects.

Every since Apple force updated me from El Capitan to Sierra Mac OS, VlC refuses to loop a playlist regardless of settings in Preferences....
I am thoroughly disgusted by this, and never asked to be forced into a new OS!!
