VLC does't show the correct time of a MPG, Mediaplayer does

I started with grabbing old VHS video cassettes with hardware from terratec ("grabby") and a bundled software from magix.
The film is recorded as mpg.
The properties of the film show the correct time, e.g. 31 minutes.

Windows Media Player shows the film as expected completly.

But VLC doesn't. It shows the video with a time of 13 minutes.

Any hints how to resolve the problem?

Thanks.

@edwardw

You mean with "sharing" to upload the film somewhere? I can't, sorry, it's a private film.

My hope was, that anybody had the same problem in the past and knows the cause for it.

Is there any log/info/message window which provides technical details of a film from the perspective of VLC?

There is a messages window, but we would prefer the sample.

A screenshot from the message window:

I hope somebody has an idea how to solve the strange time problem. I really don't want to use Windows Media Player for the grabbed VHS cassettes.

May be I could try another software for grabbing.
But I don't know if the hardware "grabby" works with any other (FOSS) software.

Is there anybody out there, who used grabby with another software?

Thanks.

I uploaded a short testfilm (335 MB) to show the problem:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/p4t6eg5oricmueo/Aufnahme.zip

His orignal total time is 10:00.
VLC shows 4:48.

And I have some new information. May be that helps to find the cause for the incorrect total time.

A friend uses another grabber from Terratec: Grabster AV450

I sent him that testfilm above.

He analyses the differences between his own recordings and my film.
Grabster (correct total time):
Input #0, mpeg, from '/media/SDG1/Aufnahme.mpg':
Duration: 01:20:37.02, start: 0.338333, bitrate: 6020 kb/s
Stream #0:0[0x1e0]: Video: mpeg2video (Main), yuv420p, 720x576 [SAR 16:15 DAR 4:3], 5554 kb/s, 25 fps, 25 tbr, 90k tbn, 50 tbc
Stream #0:1[0x1c0]: Audio: mp2, 48000 Hz, stereo, s16, 192 kb/s

Grabby (false total time):
Input #0, mpeg, from 'Aufnahme.mpg':
Duration: 00:09:59.88, start: 0.350000, bitrate: 4841 kb/s
Stream #0:0[0x1e0]: Video: mpeg2video (Main), yuv420p, 720x576 [SAR 16:15 DAR 4:3], 9500 kb/s, 25 fps, 25 tbr, 90k tbn, 50 tbc
Stream #0:1[0x1c0]: Audio: mp2, 48000 Hz, stereo, s16, 224 kb/s
I would be happy, if someone could help me to solve the problem.
Thanks.

This seems to be a bug in VLC. Here is your ticket on the bug tracker: http://trac.videolan.org/vlc/ticket/7889
