How to play AC3 Stream

Hello,
i am trying to play an AC3 (DD 5.1) audio stream that´s coming from a DVB-S card.
I've connected the DVB Card's optical out to my sound Card's optical in. When i try to replay that siganl, i only get noise.
The Sound card is a Creative Blaster recon 3D. TThe System is Windows 7 and VLC is latest version.
Can someone please advise?
