Folders, subfolders, and the media library

First, I'll say what I'm trying to do. I would like to have all of my music, easily searchable, on one list.

If I click on My Computer->My Music on the left hand side of the screen, a list of the music in the "My Music" folder comes up, along with the other folders in that directory (although they are only recognized as folders if I click on them). If I try using the search box while looking at this screen, it only searches the "My music" folder, but not the sub folders where most of my music is held. So my first question is, how can I get VLC to index all of that and make it searchable?

Second, I thought the Media library would be a good way to accomplish my goal. So, I right clicked, clicked "add folder" and added the "My Music" folder there. It added all of the folders and sub folders up to a point, and then stopped, including only a fraction of the actual content of the folder. For example, if I have 50 sub folders, it gets part way through all of the songs in folder number 24, and goes no further. Is there a limit to the number of files and subfolders that can be added at one time to the media library? If not, how do I get around this problem? Is there a way to add multiple folders from a list instead of doing it one by one (say, if I wanted to add folders 1-10, 15, and 29 from my list of 50 folders)?

Finally, if I do manage to get all of my music into the media library without needed to add all of the folders one by one, is there a way to display all of the tracks without needed to navigate through folders and subfolders to get to them?

Just a list of all my music that is searchable. That's what I want.

I'm running VLC 2.0.3 on a Windows 7, if that's helpful.
