Album Art

I have been completely baffled by the way the display of album art works in VLC. I have VLC 2.0.3 under Fedora 17 and I can't seem to consistently get it to do anything with the album art. I have copies of the art for most of my albums - some that I downloaded from the Internet and some that were residual from when I copied the music over from Windows, and they are all stored in the folder with the music and under the name "AlbumArt.jpg". VLC displays the art in some cases, and in other cases it does not. Sometimes the art will appear if I use the "Download cover art" option, but this is not consistent either.
For example, in one of my playlists the first file that is played is called "03 Mandy.wma" from the album Barry Manilow II, and I can't get the cover art for that to show up. But the next file is "7 - I Was Wrong.ogg" from BeBopMoptop and I can see the art fine. What's my problem?
