GUI for VLC daemon

Hi,
I am starting the VLC daemon during the boot of my computer and I control it with my phone or my computer.
When I use my computer, I would prefer to use the classic GUI of VLC rather than the http interface (This http interface is very basic ).
I would like to connect this GUI to this daemon (I don't want to stop the current playlist).
Any idea ?
PS : I am running on linux and I don't always start the window manager (vlc is launched as a service, independent of my graphical interface, except that it can display videos on it ). So the solution of starting the GUI when my computer starts is not suitable.
