Recieving MPEG TS Stream from ISP IPTV Network

Postby insignia96 » 23 Jul 2012 12:12

Hi All!

What I am trying to do is pick up my ISP's television network with my laptop and vlc.

My ISP's box in our house has two ethernet outs. One is our internet and the other goes to a switch that goes to our Set-Top Boxes. This network has no internet access. I plugged my laptop into that switch and watched the packets in Wireshark. There was a lot of traffic form a 10.x.x.x addresses to IPv4 239.x.x.x Multicast addresses with the protocol type MPEG TS. To intercept the stream I have tried changing the laptop's MAC address to match the MAC of one of our STBs. I unplugged it and plugged in the laptop. I opened the stream in VLC many different ways.

udp://@239.19.242.202
rtp://@239.19.242.202
udp://@239.19.242.202:32778 (this was the source port listed in wireshark)
rtp://@239.19.242.202:32778
and all the above withou the @ and so forth.

I tried unicast connections to the 10.x address as well but after some reading I don't think that is how to do it.

None of these produced much of a result. Some failed altogether and others caused a large spike in traffic (about 1.5 MB/s) but no video was displayed.

Here is a copy of the log for option #3 above. I believe 3 or 4 is the correct syntax, but I am not sure.

Code: Select all

I am trying to figure out the same thing. Does one need a tv tuner card to access IPTV streams?
