Video freezes, audio plays VLC 2.0.2

Postby socalguy » 19 Jul 2012 08:54

Ok so last night I tried to play a .avi file like I have done often with VLC and the video kept freezing but audio continued I have NEVER had this problem with VLC before in the past two years I have used it and figured it was a corrupted file so I tried a .mkv file same results, .mp4 file same results, etc etc. so I went digging through the forums and turned up about 9 or 10 different "solutions" and none worked I have had 2.0.2 since its release and it just started doing this last night after 24 hours of doing everything from rolling back to earlier releases, enabling direct3d draw, updating video drivers, enabling gpu usage, playing with cache settings, etc etc im fed up with it nothing I have tried has worked I have now switched to SMplayer because OH MY GOD IT ACTUALLY WORKS!!! So if anyone can help me please I will be very greatful let me know what ya need (logs, debug info, etc) and if anyone can actually figure this out and fix it for me I will happily purge SMplayer from my comp and bring back good ol' VLC. Also like I said this is a NEW development that JUST happened last night I had not played with any settings or anything that coulda caused this so any help is greatly aprreciated

So after a good nights sleep and a bit of patience I think I figured out the problem. I was messing around with VLC again this morning and discovered a patteren, everytime my hard disk spun up is when my video would freeze and after 5-10 seconds my hard disk would spin back down and my video would continue playing. After discovering this patteren I opened task manager to view what processes were chewing up my system resources during the HD spin up and discovered it was a program called fmapp32.exe, I couldn't find much info on it except that its not a threat and is apparently a Bit Comet program, which is weird because I dont have or use Bit Comet but after I deleted fmapp32.exe I watched through three videos with no skipping or freezing. I hope this helps some of you guys having problems.

Cool. Not related to VLC then.
