VLC 0.8.2 and Dreambox video.pls problem
Posted: 28 Jun 2005 00:26
by ptit_boogy
Hello ...
I'm having a problem since I've upgrade to version 0.8.2.
I think it's not OS dependant .. i've got the same problem on gentoo and on Win XP Pro.
With version 0.8.1 when I click on the vpid number I choose to open video.pls with VLC and it's always working ...
Thx for your help.

Hi I am seeing the same thing as ptit_boogy since upgrading to 0.8.2 I can't view the video stream from my Dreambox on my PC. I realise that maybe you don't have or like DB's but something has changed between releases. I read about DB MPEG-TS not being standard compliant, if that is so what setting changes can I make to vlc so that I can watch/listen to DB streams as before. I have not changed anything on the DB or Firefox. Any pointers would be much appreciated.

Could you get the content of the playlist file sent by dreambox with a standard web browser and post it here?

I just don't HAVE a dbox. People seem to expect that we can magically look at their equipment, but we cannot. Please provide detailed bug reports. If i'm asking for the contents of a link, then I expect people to give me those contents. I'm not waiting for a link that I cannot use.

I try that
viewtopic.php?t=9828&highlight=dreambox
when I rename video.pls in video.m3u that OK ...
But the question is "what is the problem ?" VLC 0.8.1 : OK - VLC 0.8.2 : KO

I dont have any problem viewing mpeg2-TS from my dreambox with 0.8.2 !
fore example...
If I open a HTTP/HTTPS/FTP/MMS network stream an give this URL
http://10.10.10.10:31339/0,0488,0489,048a,048b,0489
i got the Swedish ZTV chanel
The 0.8.2 works like 0.8.1 fore me !!

after i upgraded from 0.8.1 to 0.8.2 i can open the DB url no problem and view the mpeg2-TS stream no proble, but if i try to enable deinterlace on the vlc it crashes, i didnt have that problem with 0.8.1, just for test i uninstalled 0.8.2 and installed 0.8.1 again and it does deinterlace, any ideas why 0.8.2 crashes on it ? Thanks.

If the reported link above in the forum is also the case in this issue then the reason it doesn't work anymore is the same.
a .pls file with a single line as specified there is not a pls file. It's a m3u file. VLC no longer does autodetection on this files (because it creates havoc on all kinds of stuff). It uses the file extension or mimetype to retrieve the proper format of the file. If the file lies about what it is, then it is broken.

which other playlist filetypes does vlc support? m3u is already used for winamp on dbox and dreambox.

yes, the pls needs to have a #EXTM3U as first line to define meta type ...
on the other hand, a quick fix for windows :
and just use vlc.bat to open the vpid url
vlc.bat
copy %1 %1.m3u
"C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe" "%1.m3u"

Re: VLC and Dreambox video.pls problem solved - using Opera

vlc.bat
copy %1 %1.m3u
"C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe" "%1.m3u"
works fine for me:
Opera (ver. 9.22)
VLC (ver. 0.8.6d)
on Windows XP
using following settings:
go to Opera-Menu
Extras > Settings > Downloads > video/mpeg file (pls)
let Opera open the pls-file using the vlc.bat and select
"forward webadress to application".
(german: "Webadresse direkt zur Anwendung leiten")
Thanks!
