Media Library Search not working - New XP Install

Like the subject says the search facility is not working. I have searched the wiki but can't find it mentioned. I'm guessing there is something that has to be configured in a new install, but I can't find it. I've enabled media library and it lists and plays randomly OK.

What I'm doing is typing say "beatles " into the search box and hitting enter. Nothing happens. If I click on Playlist or Media Library, the search box gets cleared.

How do I get VLC to search?

Did you try the latest nightly build?

I think this is fixed in 2.0.2, indeed.

I just ran "VLC media player 2.1.0-git-20120522-0009 Rincewind" and the search does work, although it does its best to give the appearance of not working.
I now get a top level folder appearing in the main window under Playlist and the search results appear when the folder is expanded. If I start a new search the folder shrinks back to top level only and has to be expanded again to see the new search results.
I must say that I found it disconcerting that nothing is happening while you are typing in the search.
I then shut down and restarted. The media library and last search did not appear to be retained from the previous session. Am I expecting too much? Is this a relatively new feature?
