some dvd's won't play, 2.0.0 & higher

I’ve been trying to watch some of my region 1 dvds on VLC today, but I’ve been having some problems. I'd put the disc in & press play & nothing would happen. I know it can take a minute for VLC to start playing dvds, but you can usually hear the disk drive going when it does, & this was dead silent, not doing anything at all. At first I thought one of the disks had become damaged and unplayable, but when I tried the other 4 disks in that boxset only 1 of them would play. So I tried the original unplayable disk on my old computer, changing the computer to play region 1 dvds and using different dvd player software and the disk played ok, so I know there’s nothing wrong with the disk. I used check for updates & made sure I had the latest version of VLC, and I did. Finally I tried uninstalling VLC 2.0.1 and installed an earlier version, VLC 2.0.0, and that still had the same problem, so I tried an even older version, VLC 1.1.8 and the unplayable dvd’s are working again now.
So the new 2.0.1 version of VLC isn’t working with most of my region 1 dvds, but does work for some of them, don’t know why. The older 1.1.8 version is working just fine with all my region 1 dvds.

Please open Tools -> Messages (set Verbosity to 2) before you start the playback and then paste the
full resulting log here or on
Pastebin.com if it's too long.

Lotesdelere, I did what you said, I opened messages, set verbosity to 2, I pressed play, I listened while the dvd drive made noises for a couple of seconds & then went silent, just like it always does with this version, and nothing more happens. I waited more than 5 minutes. Then I opened messages again, clicked "save as" & saved the log. I opened the log, clicked "select all" I copied, and I pasted here - and you're still asking me for the full log?

So basically some DVDs, but not all, are not playing with VLC 2.0.x while they are still playing fine with VLC 1.1.x ? You are talking about Region 1 DVDs but are you in Region 1 yourself ? Tell us the titles of the problematic DVDs.
You should create a ticket on the
VLC Trac with a link to this thread.

no I'm region 2. The problem disks are 'Castle, the complete second season' disks 1,2,3 & 4, but disk 5 plays ok. & nothing wrong with the disks because, yeah, they all play fine with the older software.
