UPnP being incredibly.. Random it would seem.

I have two PCs, a Desktop with Windows 7, and a laptop with Ubuntu 12.04. Connecting via my Desktop works fine. When I try to connect to my media server on the laptop, (minidlna running on a third pc) it flashes quickly and gives an error. If I delete VLC's folder in appdata on my windows PC, It flashes quickly, and gives the same error:

Every single other DLNA compatible player - even my sony tv - works absolutely fine with my server, so it's definately nothing to do with that.

Does anyone have any idea why it isn't connecting under normal circumstances?

EDIT: I also should mention that metadata for MP3 flat out isnt working, but FLAC is working fine. Although, it doesn't load until you start playing the file rather than just opening the folder.
