Help! Playing multiple streams out of separate outputs

Hey all, I'm a newcomer here on the forum.

I'm desperately trying to find a way to play four separate streams simultaneously out of four different outputs on a Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 interface. As far as I can tell, VLC allows me to select the Saffire as the audio output driver, but doesn't give me any options of separate output channels. I've tried rerouting through Soundflower 16ch and Max/MSP (But I'm a novice) and to no avail.

This is hugely urgent, I need to have this working by Friday! If anyone has any help they can offer it'd be much appreciated.
Also I have no idea how to run commandline, so dumb-person's steps would be great too!

You need four instances of the player, each with a different audio output device selected.

If the audio driver exposes only one device with multiple pairs of channels, you are screwed. VLC cannot deal with that.

Jumping onto an old thread to confirm something: can multiple instances be easily synched, e.g. stream one file to two instances with separate audio tracks selected on separate audio outputs?

Thanks,

J
