I cannot inbed a videoLAN into power point

Hi, Can anyone help please?
I have a video clip that only opens in VLC (I.e. I cannot open it in another player e.g. Windows media player) it is a .VOB file.
When I try to inbed it into the PowerPoint presentation I would like it in, the message reads: "PP cannot insert a video from the selected file. Verify that the necessary codec for this media format is installed."
Can anyone tell me how I can save this .VOB file into another format please?
