Audio Popping

Postby TheCleanFreak » 17 Apr 2012 09:06

I've been having some problems with my audio today in which when I start a video the audio makes a loud and continuous popping noise. I tried playing various videos to be sure it wasn't just that one video, and tried different speakers and headphones but the same unbearably loud popping noise occurred. Lastly, I've tried watching videos through quicktime, on the web on Youtube and even played music through iTunes, in which everything seemed just fine. I've recently upgraded to 2.0.1 and seems like other people have been having audio problems too but with stuttering.

Anyone else having problems a loud popping sound or any other audio problems with the latest VLC? Also any solutions on fixing this problem or is it just a matter of waiting it out till the next release?

I'd appreciate any help you fine fellas can give me.

Does it persist if you turn off time stretching in the audio preferences (and restart)? Does it persist if you play an audio file with another sample rate (48kHz instead of 44,1kHz or vice versa)? Does it persist if you turn off power management? What's your audio output (Ctrl+M then "modules tree")?

I tried your first method of turning off time stretching and that seemed to have done the trick, though now when I'd like to play videos at faster playback speeds it sounds like people talk as if they took helium lol. Not that big of a deal though, a small compromise for the bigger picture of getting rid of that awfully loud popping.

Thank you for your help and take care.
