5.1 capable audio files always default to stereo

For questions and discussion that is NOT (I repeat NOT) specific to a certain Operating System.

5.1 capable audio files always default to stereo

Postby vaskark » 08 Apr 2012 00:35

I'm not sure if this problem is specific to any one OS. I'm using XP.

I've got some audio files that I ripped in 5.1 surround sound. However, when I play them in VLC they always begin on the Stereo option, and not the 5.1 option (Audio > Audio Device). It gets annoying when I have several tracks in my playlist and have to manually switch to the 5.1 option at the beginning of each track. First world problems, I know ;)

Is there a way to have the 5.1 option selected by default for tracks that have that capability? In the Audio section of the Preferences window (showing all options) i have Force detection of Dolby Surround set to On, but this hasn't helped.

Thanks for any advice I can get :)
